Shop as in Woodshop, Shoppe as in Ye Olde

What is Shop Shoppe?

Shop Shoppe is a woodshop and its a place to buy the things that we make in the woodshop, mainly things made of wood. In our experience, woodshops are places of problem solving, creativity, care and friendship. A place where objects are made with love and intention, and every offcut will be something you use in a future project, and even oopsies open up new possibilities. We mostly make stuff, but we also make some things. Shop Shoppe isn't for everyone, but its probably for you. We like to make stuff you'll use and be really fond of. We want you to have a relationship with your things. Why not be friends even?

What is wood?

Good question! It's tree stuff, one of humankind's oldest materials and imbued with innate properties and deep cultural connections. It's the stuff we've cooked over, built our homes, furniture, tools and artwork out of for as long as we can remember. More importantly, its something we take from Trees, which we all share a deep affinity for.

Frequent Queries Answered

  • Yes! But we don’t ship everything yet. Of the items in the catalogue we don’t currently ship the Burro Bench, but we can deliver it within a reasonable range of the Bay Area. We love car trips!

  • In general we are pretty into doing custom projects and large orders, but there may be a wait anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months depending on the scale of the project. Variations of our existing catalogue items can be made faster than designing an item from scratch.

  • We are so glad you want to care for your wood friends! For all of our food contact items we use a foodsafe beeswax, coconut oil and mineral oil combo that should be reapplied from time to time. You can buy the exact stuff we use at walrusoil.com if you want, but any butcher block or cutting board oils will do the trick. When cleaning your food contact wood items such as biscotti boards, charcuterie blocks, and food wands its best to not let your items soak in water for long periods of time as the wood will drink up that water and it will cause the grain to raise and split and the piece to cup or twist. We recommend towel drying your wet items to give them the longest possible life.

We use 100% Tung oil on our furniture items and they can be easily recoated or refinished with more oil based finish. Sand out any scratches or undesired imperfections first and then recoat according to the products instructions. Do not recoat with water based finishes, lacquer, or shellac as it won't work well. Please don't paint our wood items. It'll make them and us sad. If your wood item is irreparably damaged you can compost it or burn it in your fireplace to stay warm on a winter night - unless otherwise noted, we only use biodegradable + non toxic oil finishes.

  • They are our heroes from yesteryear, the animals from Wind in the Willows. We’re big fans!

  • This is our first ever zine! It’s lots of things, but mostly its a catalogue of what we are currently selling. We plan to release a new one every Summer showing you the cool stuff you can buy. We also are just really into making a zine, so we are putting other bits of content in that please us, so you can keep up with all things Shop Shoppe and maybe have a wee bit of fun.

  • We worked with Studio Paul to bring the Shop Shoppe world to life on and offline. Fonts in use are Basteleur Bold, Karrik Regular and Beth Ellen.
